Silent Ambience

Dante wrote of one so rapt in the third heaven, he heard hidden words...and said,

"When you manage to utter what you manage to utter, the rest is silence."

Schumann wrote a piece of music to his wife Clara and noted in the score

that the last note of the final movement (the four note C Major Chord),

should be held down until well after it melts into silence.

Dantista Freidrich Schlegel wrote,

"Through all the notes in earth's multi-colored dream,

there sounds one soft long drawn note for the one who listens..."

The moments just before that silent ambience, pervasive illustrations of a quiet softness,

invariably give way to images of a diffused timelessness.
